DIY - chicken in fabric

Hi chickiess! Nice idea for Easter or for a country decor : here is how to sew pretty chickens  and roosters in fabric :-) cluck, cluck, cluck... Here we go!

Material

• piece of fabric of 15X30cm for the body 
• two pieces of fabric of 10x15cm for the beak, comb and tail (if you want a rooster)

I used cotton but choose whatever fabric / scraps you want. Differentiate the colors/patterns to create a contrast between the body and from the other parts.

• 30cm cord
• sewing thread
• scissors
• pins
• filling
• pattern of the shapes to print

Step 1: prepare the shapes

Cut out your rectangle body, beak and crest rectangles. Vary the colors and patterns, it will be prettier! 

Fold the small coupons in half and draw the shapes (beak, crest and tail) on the back.

For more ease, sew them by following the lines before cutting them.

Leave an opening at the bottom and cut 0.5cm from the seam.

Turn your elements over using a stick to bring out the corners. Mark with an iron.

Step 2: Assemble the chicken 

Fold the body fabric in half right sides together to make a square.

Pin the beak, crest and tail (if it's a rooster) between the two layers. Be sure to position your elements like this:

For the rooster I place the tail in the fold. 

I pin to hold it all together.

Sew the 2 sides together leaving the bottom side of the chicken open.

Turn it around and you get your empty chicken/rooster :

Stuff your chicken and pin the open side by folding in the opposite direction of the opposite side to make a triangular shape.

Pin to hold in place.

Step 3: the legs and eyes

Cut your cord in half and make a knot at the ends that you'll burn.

Insert the legs between two pins on the side left open.

Close with a stitch and sew the eyes.

Congratulations, your chicken ....or rooster is ready!
