Step 1: Cutting and preparing the pieces
Cut the two parts of part 1 from the main fabric (viscose, silk, cotton satin...), respecting the grain and direction of the pattern. (see photo)
Cut parts 2 and 3 (trims) from the lining.
Cut out part 4 from jersey AND lightweight fusible web (H180).
Heat-seal jersey part 4, taking care not to stretch the jersey when ironing.
Step 2: assembling the pieces
Assemble the two parts of tie piece 1 right sides together.
Stitch 1cm from the edge.
Open the seams with an iron.
This is what you get:
Place the “tie bottom” and “tie top” trims right sides together on the main fabric. Pin and sew the 4 outer edges 1cm apart.
Turn both ends of the tie right side out, making the 3 corners of each part stand out (notch if necessary and flatten seams with an iron).
Using the iron, make a 1cm tuck (wrong side on right side) along the entire edge of each side from the top to the bottom of the tie.
Step 3: assembling the tie
Center fused jersey piece 4 on the reverse side of the main piece. Insert the top of the tie between the lining and the fabric and bring the tip of the iron-on piece to the end of the fabric tip.
Repeat for the bottom of the tie. When the fabrics lie flat, there should be no wobbling at either end between the fabric part and the iron-on part. They must be the same length!
Center the entire iron-on inner section on the fabric section.
Using an iron, first fold one side of the fabric tie over the fused part. The fused part serves as a mark and a limit. This is the final size of the tie.
Fold the other edge with the iron in the same way.
This is what you get:
Join the second folded edge to the first with a fairly wide hand stitch. Be careful not to pierce the main fabric or pull on the thread.
Step 4: the loop
Work the loop like a bias. Fold over an 8mm edge on each long side and mark with an iron. Fold over a 1cm edge on each short side and mark with an iron.
Then fold the loop in half lengthwise and score with an iron... the strip is ready!
You can also use an 8.5cm piece of satin or twill ribbon.
The tie is finished!
